The book of Acts, written by Luke, tells the story of faith spreading like fire in the early first century. Jesus had ascended to heaven, so you would think that Christianity would slowly smolder out. The movement should have disappeared when the Messiah disappeared, but the opposite happened. The book of Acts shows how the message of Jesus engulfed the ancient world. Ordinary men with an extraordinary message sparked an entire movement. Everywhere early Christians went, miracles followed. Like a fire growing through the forest, the entire landscape was changed whenever the Gospel moved into a new city.
Jesus left his disciples with a challenge. He said, “you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, Judea, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The fact that you are reading this devotional today is proof that the Holy Spirit empowered people to do the impossible. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, everyday men and women spread the good news of a Risen Savior throughout the entire world.
Just like Jesus called the disciples to spread the Good News from Jerusalem, Judea, and the ends of the earth, He is calling you to spread His message to your city, your country, and the entire world. Acts is a call to action. Are you ready to get moving?
