This series is fantastic for launching discipleship groups or mentoring within youth groups or small groups.

Here's how this free sermon series on 1 & 2 Timothy breaks down:
Week 1: Sacred Friendship

Many people understand Paul’s two letters to Timothy as instructions for Christian leadership and church life—and they are. But they also reveal something deeply personal about the relationship between Paul and Timothy.

In this first message, we’ll begin defining what the Bible shows us about sacred friendship. As we look at Paul’s relationship with Timothy, we see a friendship that includes guidance, encouragement, shared life, and a desire to help one another grow in Christ. Sacred friendship is one of the ways God helps shape us into followers of Jesus.

Week 2: Sacred Encouragement

Who are the people you’ll always remember? Most often, they’re the ones who invested in you. They took the time to show they cared, that you mattered, and offered the tools you needed to succeed. We all need people who encourage us, and as a sacred friend, Paul wrote words of encouragement to Timothy.

What made his encouragement sacred was that it helped Timothy trust in God—his plan for Timothy’s life and his ability to fulfill that calling. We tend to trust the words of someone who has proven themselves to us, especially when those words point us back to God himself.

Week 3: Sacred Wisdom

Have you ever received good advice from a friend? How did it affect the choices you made or the problems you faced? As a sacred friend to Timothy, Paul shares a great deal of wisdom in his two letters—including how to pursue holiness, deal with troublemakers, and lead a healthy church.

Paul’s wisdom was sacred because it came from the mind and breath of God, whose wisdom extends far beyond human understanding. As followers of Christ, we have the opportunity to seek friends who offer this kind of wisdom—and to pass it on to others as well.
