THIS IS HOW THE FREE SERMON SERIES ON DISCIPLESHIP BREAKS DOWN:
PART 1: THE GOSPEL

Let’s start right at the heart. Let’s talk about the very core of our lives as followers of Christ: the gospel. If we want to grow closer to Jesus, we need to understand His heart first. This is found in the gospel message. It’s the foundation of our faith. It’s the fundamental truth that energizes us on our journey with Jesus. So, what is the gospel? That’s the place we need to start. We can find the gospel beautifully summed up by the Apostle John in the third chapter of his Gospel. If you have grown up in church, this is likely a verse you know by heart. It’s John 3:16.

Scripture: John 3:16

PART 2: THE BIBLE

When you choose to read your Bible every morning, you are slowly changing the little voice in your head. In this session, we will discuss Bible study. It’s how you fill your mind with God’s truth every morning. This practice will empower you to focus on the right things—and that focus will form your future. Unsurprisingly, the Bible says a lot of things about…itself. There are hundreds of verses that celebrate the good life that overflows from following God’s guidance and aligning your heart with His. When we do this, God doesn’t just speak to us. He walks with us. Let’s take a look at Psalm 119.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 7:8-12

PART 3: THE CHURCH – COMMUNITY

You weren’t designed to do life alone. Our ministry is all about authentic community and supportive circles. That’s why the early Christians put such a big emphasis on their identity as a collective — not just individuals. Let’s explore how Hebrews illustrates this. The author identifies three key benefits of community right here in this small passage: protection, correction, and connection.

Scripture: Hebrews 10:23-25

PART 4: PRAYER

Prayer isn’t just something we do—it’s the foundation of our friendship with God. It’s how we connect with Him, learn to live like Him, and develop supernatural strength from the Spirit. As we explore key principles about prayer, we will see why prayer is so pivotal. Every moment of Christ’s ministry was surrounded by prayer, so finding a story about Jesus praying is not hard. However, we are about to look at one of the most intimate prayer moments in the entire Bible.

Scripture: Luke 22:39-46

PART 5: SERVING

When Jesus did ministry, He always built community, too. He wanted people to play a part in God’s work on earth. The story we are about to read proves it. John 2 sets up a pivotal moment in the ministry of Jesus. It’s time for His first public miracle. Where was it? In a church? On the city streets in Jerusalem? In front of Caesar? Nope. It was at a private party with friends. Jesus was attending a friend’s wedding, and they ran into quite a predicament: they were out of wine. Let’s explore Christ’s first miracle as a framework for the power of teamwork.

Scripture: John 2:1-11
