THIS IS HOW THE FREE SERMON SERIES ON PURPOSE BREAKS DOWN:
PART 1: LIFE EXPERIENCES: WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE?
Over the next four sessions, we’re going to explore one of the most impressive things God ever created—you. We’re about to look at where your individual purpose fits into God’s grand plan for humanity. What part do you get to play in God’s story? We must trust God’s process in our lives. God doesn’t promise us a life free of trouble, but according to Romans 8:28, He promises to bring good out of all things—even the awful.
Scripture: Romans 8:28-29
PART 2: CORE TRUTHS: WHY DO YOU MAKE YOUR CHOICES?
Every choice reveals something about our “core truths.” This is the next element we’ll examine while forming our purpose statements. Your life experiences got you where you are. They also did something else beneath the surface. These experiences formed narratives. These narratives became deeply held beliefs. Those deeply held beliefs are your “core truths.” Everyone who has accomplished something significant clung to a core truth. Our core truths matter. They set the stage for how we build our lives. Logic affirms this, and the Bible confirms it.
Scripture: Hebrews 11:24-26
PART 3: SPIRITUAL GIFTS: WHAT DID GOD DESIGN YOU TO DO?
We were raised on an almost contradictory motto:“If you believe in yourself, you can be anything you want to be.” While the saying is cute, it couldn’t be more inaccurate. You can’t be anything you want to be, and that’s good news. You get to be who God made you to be. That’s better. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to rain on your purpose parade. I just want you to understand that God’s purpose requires work on our part. That’s why God gave us “spiritual gifts” to provide the action behind our mission.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4
PART 4: YOUR PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Steve Harvey once tweeted, “The [two] most important days of your life are the day you were born, [and] the day you discover why you were born.” I would tweak this tweet to say, “The three most important days are the day you’re born, the day you’re reborn, and the day you find out why.” Nevertheless, the concept is crucial. We want to help you have the third most important day of your life. We want you to leave this session knowing exactly why God placed you where He did, when He did, and what He wants you to do.
Scripture: Hebrews 12:2
