Prayer can be perplexing. When I was young, I would start praying then drift off and start day-dreaming about pizza or penguins. I could feel the words seemingly hit the ceiling and bounce right back. I am sure that some of you have been in the same place. Maybe you don’t know what to say. Maybe you always lose your train of thought and get distracted. Maybe you even just get bored. Whatever the struggle, it’s helpful to look to scripture for examples of effective prayer.
One of the first things Jesus does in his ministry is teach his disciples how to pray. (We are sending out a whole CIRCLES curriculum about that in June). We should follow His example. We talk about prayer all the time, but rarely take a step back and help our students learn how to pray.
That is why we created this simple resource that can be passed out as a handout or sent out as an eBook. It’s an exploration through seven examples of prayer in Scripture. These are not prayer scripts. Rather, they are samples to help us pray in whatever situation we are facing — powerlessness, pain, praise, anxiety, or gratitude. This will give you practical prompts and reflections on Scripture to help you pray through whatever you are experiencing.
This is the kind of resource that I wish I had when I was sixteen. That is why we created it. When you download this resource, you will receive an eBook that gives you scripture, reflections, and prompts on seven prayers in the Bible and social media graphics to help you engage your audience throughout the week.
