James Devotional (Free)

HERE IS A FREE JAMES DEVOTIONAL FOR STUDENTS

Playlists have radically changed the way we listen to music. Of all the playlists, the most popular are dedicated to the “greatest hits.” These are the songs that define an era. Each song topped the charts and triggered a following. If you would like a “greatest hits” playlist of the Bible, then the little book of James is just for you. Similar to the proverbs of King Solomon, James shares short, practical sayings to help Christians develop a faith that works.

James knew Jesus longer than any of the other Apostles. Why? Because he was Jesus’ brother. (This is further proof of the legitimacy of Jesus. If your siblings think you are perfect, then you are certainly the real deal.) Writing to a Jewish audience, James helps believers take ownership of their faith while putting it into practice. He writes punchy proverbs that summarize the teachings of Jesus. Each section is packed with quick one-liners that get stuck in your head like a pop song. He covers topics like honesty, integrity, generosity, good deeds, trust, service, and faith.

His thesis statement is found in chapter two, where he boldly proposes that “faith without works is dead” (2:17). This is not to say that good works save a Christian. Not at all. He is saying that good works identify a Christian. Your behavior is proof of your beliefs. James penned these proverbs to help you cultivate a lifestyle of faith. James invites us to take a hard look at ourselves and ask, “do my outward works prove God’s inward work within me?”
