Here is a free sermon series on Hope for the Christmas season for your church!
This free 3-part series helps us rethink what we’re really hoping for during this time of year. Beyond the gifts, traditions, and expectations, we’re all searching for something deeper—peace we can’t manufacture, joy we can’t fake, and hope we can’t find on our own. In this series, we see how God meets those longings through the birth of Christ: the God who comes near, the God who gives new life, and the God who steps into our darkest moments with unexpected hope.
This is how the Christmas sermon series breaks down:
PART 1: WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS?
“What do you want for Christmas?” As kids, that question sparked excitement and wonder. As adults, we still want things—peace in our homes, joy in our hearts, moments that feel meaningful again. But the pressures of the season often expose how little control we have and how easily our expectations fall short. It’s good to enjoy the gifts, the gatherings, and the beauty of Christmas, but they were never meant to fill our deepest longings. This season becomes truly hopeful when what we want most is the One who came to meet every need our hearts can’t satisfy on their own.
Scripture: Luke 2:25-32
PART 2: BORN AGAIN
No matter how old we are, there’s just something about the announcement that a new baby is coming into the world that makes us feel young again. It’s almost like we’re getting a brand new start, too. In looking forward to celebrating Christ’s birth, we can have a similar sense of joyful expectation. Not just because Christ has been born—but because through his birth, death, and resurrection—we can be born again unto a living hope for the day we too will be resurrected to live eternally with him.
Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3-5
PART 3: BUT GOD
One of the best ways to understand the Christmas season is with the phrase, “But God.” It’s understandable to look at the world and think it’s just too dark and hopeless for Christmas to make any difference. There is indeed great darkness in the world. But God’s light shines in the darkness. The fallen world suffers. But God has come to rescue us. God did something at Christmas that—no matter how deep our hopelessness—still gives us every reason to hope in him.
Scripture: John 1:4-5, 9-14
