HERE IS A FREE 1 THESSALONIANS DEVOTIONAL FOR STUDENTS
What do you do when life seems confusing? I’m not talking about miscommunications during a text thread. I’m talking about the big stuff, like confusing questions about suffering, pain, death, and the afterlife. Sometimes life makes us scratch our heads and ask, “Why is this happening?” Doubt happens when our present situation doesn’t match our expectations. This contradiction leaves us asking big questions with answers that never seem to arrive.
This was the experience of the people in Thessalonica. After Paul helped them establish their church, their region went into an uprising. People were dying from invisible diseases, their leaders were ostracized from their own community, and their current experiences looked nothing like the life they expected. Paul wrote them a letter to encourage them to stand strong when life is confusing.
1 Thessalonians is Paul’s letter to his friends. He wrote to encourage them that their lives were so much bigger than their hometown — it was heaven. Paul helped the Thessalonians contextualize their suffering by looking at the bigger picture. Jesus is King and we will rule with Him one day. Continue to grow in your faith and you will be rewarded. When we face doubt, that same truth leads to transformation.
This was the message to the Thessalonians and it’s the same message for us two thousand years later. When in doubt, know that Jesus will work everything out.
